We are delighted to have the inspiring Guo Yixiu answer our 20 art questions.  

She is an multidisciplinary artist and art educator. She was born in Singapore and is based there. In her fine art practice, her materials are often derived from objects found within the everyday. Yixiu likes to use materials that individuals can easily relate to. The element of “play” is important in her works and their colourful facades often hide deeper meanings. Her inspiration is always from Singapore, as she navigates and finds her sense of identity.In 2008, Guo was awarded the Gold (with Honors) award in the Singapore Youth Festival, Arts & Craft Exhibition, a Representational Category Award in the 27th UOB Painting of the Year Competition, the Kwek Leng Joo Photo and the International Photo Awards in 2012. Furthermore, in 2013 she was chosen to exhibit at the Singapore Biennale at Singapore Art Museum.

We are very lucky to have had the opportunity to give an artist interview to the inspirational Gregory Burns in our 20 Questions feature below.

Gregory Burns is a world-class athlete and internationally recognised fine artist. He set four world records in swimming during three consecutive Paralympic Games. Retiring from competitive sports at 43, Gregory went on to complete 3 Ironman events. After 30 years of painting, his journey as an artist has received critical acclaim in over a dozen countries, receiving the Sports Artist of the Year Award in 2016 and he has been the featured Resident Artist in over 30 venues worldwide. Gregory’s notable achievements have been the source of inspiration for thousands through international speaking engagements. He is based in Singapore and California.  See what he had to say….

Jason Wee is an internationally renowned artist and writer. We are thrilled that he has agreed to answer our 20 Questions interview. 

Jason grew up in Singapore, but spent many years living in the US and Germany. He came back to Singapore to run an art space in Tiong Bahru called Grey Projects, which is an art library, exhibition space and artist residency. He is an editor for SOFTBLOW poetry journal and he was a 2005-2006 Studio Fellow at the Whitney Museum Independent Study Program. Jason has exhibited his art all over the world from Luxembourg to New York to Sydney. In 2008 he won the Young Artist Award for visual arts in Singapore and the 2009 Voters’ Prize winner at the Singapore Art Museum. He has curated several high profile exhibitions and has written scripts for the Singapore Fringe Festival as well as several books. Recently, his work has been exhibited at the Yavuz Gallery in Singapore and with Galerie Michael Janssen in Berlin.
